Charalambides guitar-player Tom Carter was taken ill in Berlin with pneumonia on Thursday 31st May. Charalambides were to have played a Was Ist Das? gig in Hebden Bridge on Saturday 2nd June, so we were left with a snap decision to make at the last minute. We didn’t want to seem crass but we didn’t want to leave the venue shut on a Saturday and mess with peoples plans. We decided the best way to carry on was as a fundraiser for Tom. Neil Campbell, Michael Flower & John Godbert joined the bill as a trio to take us back up to 3 live acts.

Just to give the fundraising an extra kick up the jacksie, I suddenly decided that we should put out a CDR, the night before the gig. Luckily, Jonathan Lees of Hibernate Records kindly mucked in and did the beautiful sleeves, not to mention handed over 5 tracks from new and forthcoming Hibernate Releases. I’d say that makes it a joint release with Hibernate and Jonathan’s not the type to argue, so it is.

Add to that the amazing generosity (and swift action) of the likes of Neil Campbell, Bridget Hayden, Rick Tomlinson and more, and less than 24 hours from getting the bright idea, the CDR was on sale at the gig. Had a great response and the remaining copies were mailed up to Volcanic Tongue. Second batch went there too. If the people want it, there will be a third.
