Bandcamp Day tips!

Bandcamp Friday is back and there’s more options than ever so it can be confusing to navigate, once you’ve caught up on clearing out your email inbox. So here’s some top tips from us.

First up, Sunburned Hand of the Man are offering 85% off when you buy their whole back catalogue. That works out at $27.79 for 155 releases. It’s not just a whole armada of Sunburned jams, but also some incendiary John Moloney/Thurston Moore sets of flamethrower rock n roll, country psyche from Franklin’s Mint and lots more.

Next up, the long standing and every strong VHF Records have made everything pay what you want to download and loads of sweet deals on merch. Here’s a few selected classics:

and speaking of VHF, they gave an amazing offsite tip-off yesterday. Hiroyuki Usui [aka L] had put up a free download of a two CD career restrospective he put together recently. Includes work he’s done under his own name, as L, as a member of Ghost and Azul. An astounding range of stuff here from spectral blues, to psychedelic jazz to some of the finest jams.

James Toth, the artist formerly known as Wooden Wand, has an EP of brand new songs ready ya!

Finally, even we have got in on the action, with a short 15 minute track by new secret collab The Hawkshead Bedroom Orchestra. It’s a wild track that outgrew its intended album and is full of deep psychedelic low end. It’s pay what you want but at the artists request, it will be made private next week and as a result, no longer for sale.

Whatever you do, enjoy the music and please share any top tips of your own

Black Mass Rising

As the title suggests, “Black Mass Rising” is a new dark and psychedelic film inspired by the likes of Kenneth Anger. It features music from Kawabata Makoto, Master Musicians of Bukake, Bobby Beausoleil (who scored “Lucifer Rising”), Mater Suspiria Vision, Burial Hex and Sylvester Anfang II among many other. Made by the mysterious Shazzula, it’s been released on DVD in a limited edition of 666. Check out this preview:

Pikacyu Makoto album now previewed & pre-ordering

“Om Sweet Home We Are Shining Stars From Darkside” is the debut album from Acid Mothers main man kawabata Makoto and former Afrirampo lady Pikachu (I don’t know why she has changed the spelling or was I just getting wrong all the time previously?).

Anyway, the album is coming out as a limited edition CD of 1000 for the world in a minature vinyl style card gatefold sleeve.

Blackest Rainbow to release new Kawabata Makoto solo LP

One of our fave labels, Blackest Rainbow, have announced another solo vinyl LP from Acid Mothers Temple mainman Kawabata Makoto entitled “White Summer of Love Dreamer” and are taking pre-orders for it now.

They’ve also lined up a vinyl release for the amazing Kim Doo Soo “Evening River” album, the CD on PSF from earlier this year was picked by Hong Kong record shop Other Musick in their top 5 for our fifth podcast.

Are you aware of the internet archive? Thanks to them I was able to find a copy of the old version of this website and put all the old articles over on the features page. They also store non-copyright media. You can download films that have have expired or lapsed copyright such as “Nosferatu” or “Night of the Living Dead”. They also have a live music archive where you can access for free live recordings of artists who don’t mind their shows being distributed in this way.

Well, I thought it was of particular note that they have a video of a Dublin gig played by Damo Suzuki [ex-Can] and Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers Temple along with some local collaborators. You can download it from:
