Hebden Bridge – Inkfolk – UK MUZZLERS + ABRASIVE PHEASANTS – Thursday 21st August 2014

UK Muzzlers webUK Muzzlers is a new name for an old collaboration between Neil Campbell (Vibracathedral Orchestra/Astral Social Club/A Band) and John Clyde-Evans aka Tirath Singh Nirmala (Hood/Ovid Corpse). Neil’s discography is big enough to crash your browser. He’s collaborated with High Wolf (as Iibiis Rooge), Ashtray Navigations, Richard Youngs, Sunroof, Campbell Kneale, Merzbow and many more. John is from Hebden Bridge and first came to prominence in the band Hood (Domino Recordings) before branching out into deeper waters with his solo output and regular collaborations with Neil under the Astral Social Club moniker. This gig will be their first show as a duo for quite a few years and they teasingly suggest this will be a punk rock set….

Abrasive Pheasants are a neo-krautrock combo with jazz-punk tendencies
from hebden bridge, comprising

dan keightley – drums, percussion
matt lupton-levy – keyboards
steve lacey – bass guitar, electronics
michael linden west – nst guitar, electronics

This show will be pay what you can afford but don’t bring your own booze as Inkfolk is fully licensed and serving some nice bottled beers and things.

As usual, we will keep the live music last train friendly, but music of the pre-recorded variety will last much longer. Was Ist Das? Soundystem will be playing between band sounds and then taking things later will be our favourite record spinning reprobates.

Cragg Vale – next to the Robin Hood – NATURAL SNOW BUILDINGS + CRYSTAL MIRRORS – Saturday 28th June 2014

naturalsnowbuildings2014webIts always a special time when we do a gig up in Cragg Vale and continuing this theme, we bring you the French enigmas themselves Natural Snow Buildings. They play a deeply unique sound encapsulating folk, drone, shoegaze and sinister references to John Carpenter, The Blair Witch Project and the macabre. They have an extensive but painfully elusive discography both under their own name and also their solo projects, Twinsistermoon and Isengrind. Most of these releases have been selling second hand for silly money but American label Ba Da Bing are re-releasing the rarest as affordable and available editions. The latest classic to come back down to earthly prices is “The Dance of The Moon and The Sun”, widely regarded as one of their finest hours.

In support we have new duo Crystal Mirrors. Crystal Mirrors explores collaboration, divination and syncronicity in music through the mysterious and haunting universes of Magpahi and Trianglecuts. Magpahi is the solo project of Alison Cooper of Bird Records/ N. Racker / Supernatural Lancashire / Folklore Tapes.  Trianglecuts is the multi disciplinary solo project of Gwendolen Osmond who explores vocal/synthesiser/piano loops with dance/movement and visual experiments

Doors are at 7.30pm and we aim for a 10pm curfew to enable long distance public transport usage. The 901 bus serves Cragg Vale from Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd. This is a small venue so please book a ticket before travelling from our shop. We only accept Paypal at the moment but can accept cash in advance at another gig or by arrangement in Hebden.

Hebden Bridge – Masonic Hall – NEW BUMS + DAVID MORRIS+ MAGPAHI – Tuesday 17th June 2014

New Bums New Bums is a new duo consisting of Ben Chasny [aka Six Organs of Admittance] and Donovan Quinn [frontman of Skygreen Leopards] and perfectly blends their skills to maximum effect. Their debut album on Drag City “Voices In A Rented Room” earned great reviews from Pitchfork, All Music (who memorably described it as “a strange, haunted look into imagined desert scenes, cheap motels, and tales of depraved living, floating by on tunes so unassuming they disappear before the darkness ever truly sets in.”), Popmatters, Drowned In Sound and, of course, ourselves (we would never put on a band we weren’t into).

David Morris plays in Red River Dialect, a psych-folk-rock group from Falmouth, Devon who for this show will be performing in a stripped-down line-up. Often likened to a more forward-thinking version of The Waterboys. David will be playing either solo or in a duo,

Magpahi is the solo project of Alison Cooper and she has put out releases for such labels as Twisted Nerve, Bird Records and Folklore Tapes.

The Masonic Hall is on Hangingroyd Lane (for more location info, click on “Where’s the venues?“) and we will be keeping things last train friendly, so fear not city-dwellers !

Tickets are £10 on the door or you can buy an advance virtual ticket for £8 from http://wasistdas.bigcartel.com/ and get yourself a free mix CD made especially for the gig as well!
