After last year’s jaw-dropping solo set, we just had to get Wooden Wand back on in Hebden and this time he’s kindly bringing along his whole band with him and leaving behind a trail of rave reviews for this years album “Blood Oaths Of The New Blues”. If you’ve not had the pleasure yet, here’s a couple of choice cuts:
Praise for Blood Oaths of the New Blues
“this is the sound of one musician’s prolific and mercurial path, reaching delightful new highs.” Pitchfork 7.9
“James Jackson Toth deploys steel guitar, drones and languid acoustic folk with a connoisseur’s touch.” The Financial Times 4/5
“Strangely hypnotic” The Sunday Times
“It’s folk, yes, but with wickedness instead of a waistcoat.” Q
“James Jackson Toth’s ruminations on morality and life in general are as thought-provoking as ever and his music as gorgeous.” Soundblab – Album of the Week
A darkly beautiful songwriter at the height of his powers, often drawing comparisons to Bob Dylan and Nick Cave, Wooden Wand has been an underground secret the last few years but this year his star is on the rise as the press has finally taken notice. This could be the last chance to see in a venue this size and is also the first time he has toured the UK with a full band.
Support comes from Darkher, the new project from Jayn Hanna, formerly of The Steals
Tickets £8 non members £6 members, available from the venue, Jumbo Records and online at We Got Tickets
