The Circle Remains Unbroken

Brazilian label Essence Music have announced their newest releases are to be two reissues of esteemed releases by Finnish hypno-metal experimentalists Circle.

The studio album “Prospekt” is revived alongside live album “Soundcheck”, both in limited runs of 800 copies on CD in miniature gatefold-LP style sleeves. This comes on the back of recent albums by Aidan Baker and a reissue of the first live album by Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O.

6th Birthday: The Roots of Was Ist Das?

Well, judging by the greetings on facebook, it is now August 19th in Japan, so that means the 6th birthday of Was Ist Das? has begun. It’s also the second anniversary of when Was Ist Das? 2.0 was born, as that’s when the domain name registration was freed and I could start again with a brand new website with a new host & registrar.

To celebrate, here’s a DJ mix exploring the music that inspired & informed my musical tastes. Included are many old favourites and songs used as nuggets in the podcast/video review intro theme:

Acid Mothers Temple release acoustic album!

In shock news of the day category (well, in music anyway) comes the release of “Live As Troubadour” a live acoustic album from Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. It is vinyl only at the moment and is out on Important Records right now via themselves and the usual outlets.

The album includes such Acid Mothers favourites as La Novia, Pink Lady Lemonade and Dark Stars In The Dazzling Sky.

We scoured the internet for some listening samples and found some over at Boomkat.

Pikacyu Makoto album now previewed & pre-ordering

“Om Sweet Home We Are Shining Stars From Darkside” is the debut album from Acid Mothers main man kawabata Makoto and former Afrirampo lady Pikachu (I don’t know why she has changed the spelling or was I just getting wrong all the time previously?).

Anyway, the album is coming out as a limited edition CD of 1000 for the world in a minature vinyl style card gatefold sleeve.

Blackest Rainbow to release new Kawabata Makoto solo LP

One of our fave labels, Blackest Rainbow, have announced another solo vinyl LP from Acid Mothers Temple mainman Kawabata Makoto entitled “White Summer of Love Dreamer” and are taking pre-orders for it now.

They’ve also lined up a vinyl release for the amazing Kim Doo Soo “Evening River” album, the CD on PSF from earlier this year was picked by Hong Kong record shop Other Musick in their top 5 for our fifth podcast.

Are you aware of the internet archive? Thanks to them I was able to find a copy of the old version of this website and put all the old articles over on the features page. They also store non-copyright media. You can download films that have have expired or lapsed copyright such as “Nosferatu” or “Night of the Living Dead”. They also have a live music archive where you can access for free live recordings of artists who don’t mind their shows being distributed in this way.

Well, I thought it was of particular note that they have a video of a Dublin gig played by Damo Suzuki [ex-Can] and Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers Temple along with some local collaborators. You can download it from:
