Spectrum to release very limited 7″ picture disc

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

The Great Pop Supplement have announced details of a new release by Spectrum:

GPS54 SPECTRUM & TIM ‘LOVE’ LEE b/w SPECTRUM & CAPTAIN MEMPHIS (aka JIM DICKINSON) 7” PICTURE DISC
Next up on The Great Pop Supplement is both a musical and visual mindbender of a 45! A total killer 7” pic disc featuring 2 collaborations between Sonic Boom / Spectrum and Tim ‘Love’ Lee and Captain Memphis aka legendary musician (Stones / Aretha Franklin / Alex Chilton) and Producer (Big Star etc…), Jim Dickinson.

Both pieces are among the very best things recorded since Sonic Boom’s days with Spacemen 3. Total whacked out Silver Apples mash up one side and a wonderful smoked out, moog fuelled blues on the reverse.
Hugely acclaimed DJ and Producer Tim ‘Love’ Lee and Spectrum offer up “Words May Shatter”, a stunning The Silver Apples / Suicide freakout on Side A, while the reverse features an unreleased out-take of the mighty “The Lonely Death of Johnny Ace” from a collaborative project between Sonic Boom / Spectrum and Captain Memphis. Recalling the tragic, true story of master bluesman Johnny Ace who shot himself dead on Christmas Day 1954 and featuring an incredible vocal from the late, great Jim Dickinson, this take debuts here.

Beautiful, op-art effect picture disc and acetate sleeving, this is a one off pressing of 1000 which is sure to go quick…

Current 93 Over London

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Spring sees the rising of lambs, the flowers growing, the trees budding and the blossoming of Current 93.

Firstly, there are special anniversary shows in London at the HMV Forum, Kentish Town on Friday 28 May and Saturday 29 May. The shows not only celebrate 25 years of Current 93 but also celebrate David Tibet’s 50th birthday.

The Friday night sees support from Nurse With Wound [who despite being almost Siamese twin to Current 93 have never shared a bill with them before] and Simon Finn. The Saturday sees Comus and Rameses III opening the night.

The shows will be the first chance to buy the new Current 93 album “Baalstorm, Sing Omega”. The lineup of the group for the album is: Eliot Bates, James Blackshaw, John Contreras, Baby Dee, Andrew Liles, Melon Liles, Alex Neilson, Bea Taylor, Isabel Taylor and David Tibet.

The album will be released both as a CD digipak and 12″ single LP in a single sleeve with elaborate artwork by David. It is likely that the LP will only be available at the London shows and through Coptic Cat and Jnana mail order.

To top it all off, there’s a special vinyl box set on the way, “Like Swallowing Eclipses” via Dirter.

Appearing for the first time on vinyl are the complete highly acclaimed Andrew Liles remixes of the first five classic Current 93 albums. Andrew Liles has reimagined Nature Unveiled, Dogs Blood Rising, In Menstrual Night, Dawn and Live at Bar Maldoror. Also exclusive to this set is a sixth LP, ‘Haunt Invocation (Apadno)’ which is a remixed version of ‘Faust’ and ‘A Special Plan’. These influential albums by Current 93 are regarded by many as ground breaking and innovative, building upon this Andrew Liles has redreamt and reimagined these pieces with the flair and vision that he is renowned and respected for.

All the records in this 6 LP set come in individual covers and a beautiful spot varnished box and are adorned with astounding artwork by David Tibet and photographs by Simona Dalla Valle. STRICTLY LIMITED TO 1000 COPIES WITH NO REPRESS.
