>The really awesome thing about running a label now is when you go and see a band you’ve never seen before and they utterly destroy you, you can go up to them afterwards and say “Hey, wanna put out a tape?”. So was the case with Girl Sweat. I’d met Russell (for Girl Sweat is a one-man band) at my Cosmic Dead gig and I’d then blagged the DJ slot off him for his Brudenell Social Club birthday party where he and the Cosmic Dead played. Well, I’d still not listened to Girl Sweat before that night and then he came out and did this. My jaw was on the floor. Russell got this brutal recording of the night and came back to me to see if I’d release it.
Of course I fucking would. Listen to it:
That’s just a small piece of the non-stop 27 minute set. Taken out of context it still has power but consumed as a whole and it will devastate. What do you hear? To me its like the bastard lovechild of Mark E Smith & Jon Spencer fronting peak era Cramps after being remixed by early Cabaret Voltaire but with the brutality of early Swans.
Don’t normally approve of single-sided tapes but I was damned if I was going to stop this relentless set half way through for a tape flip. It never even seems to pause for breath.
Limited edition of 50 copies. 41 of the tapes are yellow, 9 are pink. Shells are black. Artwork by Zeke Clough, the same artist who did all the artwork for Shackleton & Appleblim’s Skull Disco label.
